This is a physics winner: a kettle needs only 0.1-0.15 kWh for 1 liter, a stovetop 0.3-0.5 kWh. The kettle isolates better and has direct contact with every drop of water. A 4-person flat saves easily 20 € yearly.

Electric stovetops heat a metal disc (at 2,400 W power), then you set a pot on top, lots of heat loss upward/sides. Pot bottom (often curved) only partially touches the plate. Kettle has an element sitting DIRECTLY in water, 100% heat contact. Plus kettle insulation (double plastic) is better than a bare pot. Result: kettle is 50% more efficient.

- 1. Buy kettle (20-40 € for standard model)Electric kettle with switch is the base model: simple, safe, needs just an outlet. Brands: Philips, Bosch, Braun, all work equally well.
- 2. Position kettle on counter or table near outletIdeal: between sink and your work area. Cord shouldn't hang across room (tripping risk).
- 3. Fill water: to the line (not overfull!)Kettle has max fill line drawn inside. Don't exceed, boiling water could spray from spout. Bottom has min line (don't go below, element runs dry).
