About Global Oil Shock

Who makes this site, how the numbers are produced and what pays for it.

Who is behind it

globaloilshock.com is published and run by Jörg Dässler from St. Gallen, Switzerland, as a sole proprietorship with no newsroom behind it. He trained in marketing and communications (IHK, the German chamber of commerce qualification) and has spent many years in B2B sales. Full publisher details are on the imprint page.

This is not a media company and not an advisory service. It began with a personal question, what an oil price shock actually costs a household, and over 2025 and 2026 grew into a calculator, a price archive and a situation map in four languages.

Why this site exists

Anyone trying to find out what heating oil, diesel or electricity will cost over the next few months ends up with either crude charts built for traders or guides with no numbers in them. Something was missing in between: a site that turns the situation at the chokepoints, the stock levels and the price at the pump into a household figure.

That is what lives here: the calculator for extra costs per household, the daily price pages for the United States, the United Kingdom, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, France and Spain, the situation map with sea lanes and pipelines, the oil reserves monitor and the glossary that explains the terms behind it all.

How we work

Every number on this site has a source named next to it: the US Energy Information Administration, the International Energy Agency, Eurostat, the European Commission's Oil Bulletin, national price services and heating oil comparison sites, plus news agencies for the situation at sea. How the calculators work and which assumptions they rest on is set out in the methodology.

What we do not do is predict prices that nobody can back up. A forecast on this site is always the forecast of a named institution with a date. Old versions are archived rather than deleted, and mistakes are listed openly in the corrections log.

AI tools are used for research, translation and maintenance. Choosing the sources, checking the numbers and taking responsibility for the content stays with the publisher.

How the site is funded

The site is independent and is not owned by any energy supplier, dealer or trade body. It is funded through clearly labelled partner links (sponsored) and display advertising. Which providers are involved and what data they process is described in the privacy policy.

Advertising has no influence on numbers, ratings or text. A partner card next to an article does not mean we recommend the product, and advertisers do not see content before it is published. The site is not investment advice and does not replace advice from your energy supplier, heating engineer or tax adviser.

Contact and corrections

Questions, error reports and press enquiries go to contact@globaloilshock.com. Replies usually take two to three working days. If you think a figure on this site is wrong, it gets checked, and if you are right it goes into the corrections log.
